This Indenture made the eleventh day of October One thousand eight hundred and seventy three Between George Loosemore of Crediton in the County of Devon. Farmer of the first part, Harry Loosemore aged seventeen years in March last, Son of the said George Loosemore of the second part, and Herbert Trickey of Sandford in the said County of Devon, Butcher of the third part. Witnesseth that the said Harry Loosemore as well of his own free will and consent as by and with the consent of the said George Loosemore testified by his being a party to and executing these presents Doth put place and bind himself, and by these presents Doth put place and bind himself an In-door Apprentice to the said Herbert Trickey with him to be and him to serve and abide to learn the art, trade, and business of a Butcher from the day of the date hereof and until the said Harry Loosemore shall attain the age of Twenty-one years, during which time the said Harry Loosemore, his said Master shall well and faithfully serve, his secrets keep, his lawful commands every where gladly do, he shall do no damage to his said Master nor see it done by others but to the best of his power shall tell or forthwith give warning to his said Master of the same, he shall not waste the goods of his said Master nor lend them unlawfully to any, he shall not contract Matrimony during the said term, he shall not play at cards, dice table or any other unlawful games whereby his said Master may have any loss with his own goods or others during the said term without the license or consent of his said Master, he shall neither buy nor sell, without the permission of his said Master, he shall not haunt Taverns or Playhouses or absent himself from his said Master’s service unlawfully but in all things as a faithful Apprentice he shall behave himself towards his said Master and all his Family during the said term And the said George Loosemore doth hereby for himself his Executors and Administrators covenant promise and agree to and with the said Herbert Trickey his Executors and Administrators that he the said Harry Loosemore shall and will well and truly serve the said Herbert Trickey as an In-door Apprentice as aforesaid and perform all his lawful commands during the said term. And also that he the said George Loosemore shall and will from time to time during the said term find and provide the said Apprentice with clothes and wearing Apparel of every description with the making and mending thereof, also with steels and with Medicine and attendance in case of sickness or accident during the said term And the said Herbert Trickey for the consideration aforesaid doth hereby, for himself his Executors and Administrators covenant and agree to and with the said George Loosemore his Executors and Administrator and also to and with the said Apprentice that he the said Herbert Trickey shall and will at all times during the said term provide the said Apprentice with Meat, Drink, Washing and Lodging Also with the requisite Tools. Also will well and truly teach and instruct or cause to be duly taught and instructed the said Harry Loosemore in the Art, trade and business of Butcher in all and every of its branches by the best and most approved means which he the said Herbert Trickey now uses and in the best way manner and method he can And also shall and will well and truly pay unto the said Apprentice, or to the said George Loosemore his Executors or Administrators, during the last year of the said term the sum of two shillings per week unless the said Apprentice shall absent himself or be sick and unable to work during the said last year of the said term in which case it shall and may be lawful for the said Herbert Trickey to make a deduction out of the said weekly wages in proportion to the time which he the said Apprentice shall so absent himself or be unable to work And it is hereby severally and mutually agreed by and between the said parties that if at any time during the said apprenticeship the said Herbert Trickey his Executors or Administrators shall require the said Apprentice to do any other kind of work than that appertaining to the trade of a Butcher it shall be the duty of the said Apprentice to perform the same, provided such work does not interfere with the said Apprentice being duly taught the trade which by the Indenture he is apprenticed to learn. And it is hereby also further agreed between the said parties hereto that the said Harry Loosemore shall during the said Term be home to his said Master’s House every Sunday evening by nine o’clock unless he has permission from his said Master to be absent therefrom later than that hour In Witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.
