Tapp Woodland
Thomas Woodland was born about 1778 and married Hannah Bow probably in 1797 given the dates of birth of their children. Their third child William Tapp Woodland is my third Great Grandfather who married Sarah Gaulton on 17th June 1828. More information about them is shown on the page for Reginald Shepards siblings.
Although I have tried to restrict the details shown on this website to direct ancestors, I have decided to include a small section dealing with one of the other children of William Tapp Woodland as her descendants played a part in the story of my Great Aunts Ethel, Mabel and Kit Shepard in Ottery St Mary the full details of which are shown elsewhere.

Mary Tapp Woodland 1829 - 1913
(2nd Great Great aunt)
Mary Tapp Woodland was born 26/7/1829. In 1841 and 1851 shw is shown living at home with her sister Elizabeth in Bradford Peverell.
Her father William Tapp Woodland died in Dorchester Q1 1859 vol 5a page 270.
Mary Tapp Woodland married James Fowill Geall in Wareham Q1 1854 vol 5a page 465. The Geall Family can be found living on High West Street Dorchester in 1841 next door to a watchmaker called James Hardy and his family. Perhaps it was this which influenced James Geall’s future choice of profession. There is no trace of Mary Geall or her husband James and family in 1861. In that year two of her children Flora and John are staying in Bradford Peverell with their maternal grandmother. By 1871 the family have moved to Poole. Ten years later Mary and the remaining children are living in Higher Wrackleford while James is alone in Poole. Census details show that at some time between 1881 and 1891 the family have moved to Lambeth. Mary's husband James Geall died age 60 in Poplar Q3 1890 vol 1c page 384. By 1911 most of the family had returned to Poole
Mary Gealle died age 85 in Poole Q4 1913 vol 5a page 281
During their married life Mary and James had eight children of whom two in particular are of interest to us. They are Mary Elizabeth and Alice Kate.
