Peggy Shepard 1920 – 2008
Peggy Shepard was born at 9 York Terrace Dorchester to Reginald and Edith Shepard on 8th August 1920. She was the second youngest of five children.
Peggy Shepard married Albert Loosemore at St George’s Church, Fordington, Dorchester on 6th March 1945. The marriage certificate shows Peggy’s name as Peggy Lake.
Peggy and Albert spent their short honeymoon in a guest house, Holmcroft in Lyme Regis. They returned here again for a holiday in 1946. I believe it was during this visit that the Woodrow paintings were purchased. I also visited Holmcroft and met the owners Ken and Hilda Wright during the early 1950's.
Throughout my childhood and beyond, three paintings by PJ Woodrow took pride of place on the dining room wall in Garfield Avenue and following the death of my parents are now in my possession. A detailed account of these paintings can be found on the PJ Woodrow page.
Peggy sadly passed away on 31st October 2008 at Forston Clinic Herrison. It is an eerie coincidence that her father spent many years working at Herrison Hospital and that her mother, my grandmother also passed away as a patient in the Forston Clinic.
