Mark Peter Loosemore 1947 – ????
I was born on 16th February 1947 in the then maternity unit in The Gables, 9 Albert Road, Dorchester. The birth was recorded in Dorchester Q1 1947 vol 6a page 932. This method of representing Birth, Marriage and Death records has been used throughout this site to provide the reader with the opportunity to pursue the relevant certificates if they wish to do so. This event was quite a rare occurrence, not that I should be born there, because that event is obviously unique. The rarity is that I have only been able to find mention in the Birth, Marriage and Death records between 1837 and 1937 of one other Loosemore in the town. This is the marriage of a Robert Loosemore to Elsie M Abbott in Dorchester in the first quarter of 1921. I have been able to trace two Robert Loosemores. One was born in Upottery near Honiton in the third quarter of 1895 to George and Mary J Loosemore His father was an Agricultural Labourer so the tradition of working on the land continues with some family members. The other is a Robert W Loosemore born in Southampton to a Blacksmith, Thomas Loosemore and his wife Fanny in the third quarter of 1894. Undoubtedly the local girl one of these Roberts married was Elsie May Abbott who was probably born in Frome St Quintin to a Carter and his wife in the third quarter of 1900. It is of course possible that there were other Loosemores in Dorchester prior to 1837 and maybe somebody beat me to it between 1937 and 1947 but I am going to lay claim to the title of Dorchester’s first born Loosemore until I am challenged. Jane Loosemore 1953 – ????
I had thought that my sister Jane was born in Dorchester at Somerleigh Court Maternity Unit on 9th December 1953 but interestingly her birth is recorded as Weymouth Q4 1953 vol 6a page 727. Investigations have shown that this was not due to a birth in Weymouth but because Dorchester became a sub registration district of Weymouth at the end of September 1949. |
